Fun-employment

As many of you already know, Nancy and I have officially left our jobs and are fun-employed! Well...kinda. Nancy is still technically working on contract for her old company when they need help on projects. She has also been ramping up the amount of English that she has been teaching online through VIPKid (much to my dismay, the classes are often at weird hours like 5am due to the time difference between Vancouver and China).

We are currently spending our days preparing for our trip, whether it be selling off possessions, moving things home for storage (thanks mom & dad) , looking for a place to live, or seeing friends and family before we leave.

After our last day at work, we took the ferry over to Vancouver Island and visited my parents for a few days in Qualicum Beach. The cheesy autumn photo, above, was taken there!

Ryan, Chris' cousin, spinning steel wool in a tidal pool.

We also went to the beach at 4am to spin fire with my cousin, Ryan (4am because of low light setting is required for steel wool photography, and because of the timing of low tides). It was pitch black outside with no moon in sight. It was pretty spooky, not to mention there were some whales nearby making a ton of noise. We couldn't see them in the dark, but they sounded really close - we were startled by them on several occasions.

In other news...

We wrapped up our 8-week-long level 1 Japanese lessons at International House Vancouver. We are now decently proficient at reading and writing both Hiragana and Katakana. That being said, just because we can read it, doesn't mean we know what it means. I am very happy that google translate exists, as it will probably be our best friend for the first couple months in Japan.

We have also ordered the new GoPro Hero 8 as an early Christmas present for ourselves. The Hero 8 has a lot of functions oriented towards vlogging, so you can expect to see videos of us traveling through Thailand and Japan!
